Development Engineer

Our client a medical device multinational currently seeks 2 Development Engineers to join their team to work on 2 early stage projects. Reporting to Projects Leader the development engineer will have at least 5 years post graduate experience with a minimum of 2 in R&D function

Role/Responsibilities:

• Research relevant technologies to build viable concepts for specific applications within the medical device industry. Develop novel and innovative approaches to apply concept to manufacturing technology
• Conduct detailed feasibility studies with a view to bringing concepts through to validation.
• Provide detailed justifications for development projects and subsequently provide management to these projects in terms of leadership, time, costs and reporting.
• Work in conjunction with key stakeholders to develop, design, and evaluate processes and/or equipment and to transfer concepts into manufacturing.
• Contribute to design review within the engineering function.
• As needed develop connections with external research groups to support technology development or decision making.
• Liaise with Corporate R&D, as required, in the development of new concepts.
• Ensure any Intellectual Property aspects of development are identified and protected in conjunction with the Corporate Legal group.
• Investigate and evaluate existing technologies and coordinate associated project activities.
• Ensure work is completed in a compliant manner with regard to both execution and documentation.
• Provide detailed project specifications, drawings, procedures, tender documents and where applicable comply with site GMP procedures.
• Design in health, safety and environmental best practice and ensure that all work is completed in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
• Other work as requested by the Projects Leader

Skills/Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Technical post graduate qualification is highly desirable.
• Minimum 5 years post qualification experience with at least 2 years of this experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industry.
• Experience in materials science, bonding applications or laser technology application is required.
• Experience of applying technology into high speed automation is desirable.
• A proven ability to deliver projects from concept through to completion.
• Must have the ability to manage concurrent priorities.
• Must possess good attention to detail and flexibility of approach.
• Must work well as part of a team
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to meet strict deadlines
• To be computer literate to include (but not limited to) all aspects of MS Office, MS Project and Autocad. Minitab experience an advantage.
• Good telephone, oral and written communication skills.
