Development Leader

Our client a multinational medical device manufacturer is currently seeking a development leader to join their team. Reporting to WW Engineering Manager the role is responsible for the transfer from R&D and introduction of new lines onto the site. The purpose of this position is to co-ordinate the site development function to ensure new products and process are introduced in an efficient and effective manner, utilising leading technologies and methods.

Role/Responsibilities:

Develop, design, and evaluate processes and/ or equipment requiring novel and innovative approaches or major breakthrough in technology.
Lead site engineering and liaise with R&D in the development of new product introduction projects and ensure that project timelines are met.
Ensure any Intellectual Property aspects of development are identified and protected in conjunction with the Corporate Legal group.
Develop advanced manufacturing processes using six sigma and lean guidelines to lower product standard cost
Conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality of processes and support project justifications.
Investigate and evaluate existing technologies and coordinate associated project activities.
Work with operations, to introduce new and optimize existing processes, and to ensure that production goals are met. Ensure good project handovers are achieved.
Ensure work is completed in a compliant manner with regard to both execution and documentation.
Provide detailed project specifications, drawings, procedures, tender documents and where applicable comply with site GMP procedures.
Manage and develop staff in the development function through involvement, delegation, and regular reviews of performance as established in IIGs.
Design in health, safety and environmental best practice and ensure that all work is completed in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
Provide detailed justifications for development projects and subsequently provide management to these projects in terms of leadership, time, costs and reporting.
Participate in the site Continuous Improvement Programme
Other work as requested by the WW Engineering Manager

Skill/Experience:

Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering Degree qualification or equivalent qualification with particularly relevant longer experience
Black Belt Six sigma qualifications preferred
Further Post-graduate qualification a distinct advantage
Minimum 10 years post qualification experience
Minimum 3 years recent experience in the medical device or other regulated industry at a management level.
Management of high speed automation projects.
Must have the ability to manage concurrent priorities.
Must possess good attention to detail and flexibility of approach.
Must work well as part of a team
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to meet strict deadlines
Introduction of new products/ technical transfers
To be computer literate to include (but not limited to) all aspects of MS Office, MS Project and AutoCAD. Minitab experience an advantage.
Good telephone, oral and written communication skills.
