Director of Operations

Due to a recent acquisition our client a multinational diagnostics company seeks a Director of Operations to join their team. Alongside managing existing business the position will oversee the tech transfer and ramp up of manufacture as the facility becomes a centre of manufacturing for European Market. The Director of Operations will report to the General Manager for Ireland, with dotted line to Corporate Vice President. The Director of Operations will operate as a member of the Senior Management Team of Ireland and will be responsible for meeting key strategic objectives, driving and achieving the productivity expectations of the business, working collaboratively with the wider leadership team and technical experts with responsibility for the areas of Product Development, Manufacturing, Facilities, Technical Support, Quality Control, Customer Care & Logistics.

Role /Responsibilites:

Lead and manage the Operations group to ensure that the group operates in a cohesive, efficient, compliant, cost effective, and safe manner.
Ensure the operational delivery team meet all related regulatory requirements during the course of their work, for each designated customer jurisdiction.
Responsible for the planning and delivery of all product development activities, to ensure launch timelines are reached.
Effectively manage the transfer of products from R&D to production.
Responsible for resolution of technical problems associated with the products and processes
Meet production requirements, Quality standards and inventory targets.
Meet all customer, regulatory, safety and procedural requirements whilst maintaining high levels of product availability.
Manage the full Engineering function including ensuring adequate facility and equipment maintenance, procurement and commissioning of new equipment and equipment upgrade.
Contribute to the achievement of the business growth strategy, as part of the Senior Management Team.
Monitor performance and develop staff to maximise talent. Maintain an active process of succession planning to promote development, and assist with resource planning processes.
Promote a positive and inclusive team culture.
Ensure all areas function within the agreed cost centre budgets.
Develop and gain corporate approval for capital projects for the site.
Build relationships with key suppliers to ensure continuity of supply while ensuring value for money.
Ensure site approved projects within the operations group complete within the agreed timeframes and budgets.
Develop and promote a strategy within the operations group that promotes continual improvement with regards to cost, quality, and product delivery.
Approach the role in a flexible manner, and be prepared to adapt to requirements outside of the immediate role that are essential to the organisation.

Skills/Experience:

BSc Degree in a Biological Science is essential, preferably with a formal management qualification
Proven track record of leading and managing technical teams at a senior level in diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceutical or healthcare sector and in managing and delivering on complex projects
Successful experience in a complex, multinational environment
Knowledge & experience of production in controlled environments
Experience with full cycle product deliverables – product development, scale up of product, industrialisation, raw materials, product release in QC, logistics and supply chain
Highly process orientated and improvement focused
Experience in a Molecular Manufacturing environment is an advantage
Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively
A strategic thinker with commercial acumen
Ability to engage, coach and develop others to drive performance
Ability to travel
