Engineering Design Manager

Our client a global leader in design, manufacture and servicing of tooling and associated components to the pharmaceutical industry currently seeking an Engineering Design Manager. The role of the Design Manager is to ensure right first time designs are delivered on time to both the internal and external customers of our client. . Reporting to the Operations Director the successful candidate will manage a team of 30 highly skilled design engineers and applicant must have a proven ability to manage highly technical engineers in a design led business Manager the main duties of design manager are as follow

Role/Responsibilities

Right first time designs to both internal and external customers
Ensure performance management’s system in place to manage, identify and develop talent in the design department, also addressing any quality issues that may arise through the investigation procedure.
Ensure Systems and processes within design department are developed and evolve to ensure right first time designs leading to a significant reduction in customer complaints assigned to the design department
Ensure departmental KPIs set around quality and performance are achieved
Set KPIs for the individuals within the department related to performance and quality and ensure these are managed accordingly.
Ensure on time delivery to internal delivery dates
Partake in improvement projects that are identified by the business.
Define and delivery on Continuous improvement projects
Responsible for outputs from the Design Department and ensure optimal performance is achieved
Establish best practice working processes
Ensure a reduction in human error related design issues
Supporting any Design for manufacture projects
Supporting any projects related to process improvements and design automation
Support reviewing any non-conformances or customer complaints as required.
Generate training plan for the department

Skills/Experience

Engineering Degree of Equivalent
Proven Management Experience
Ability to develop a team
Be disciplined in developing organisational systems, procedures, rules and norms.
Apply a systematic and logical approach in order to get things right.
Enjoy the challenge of problem solving and come up with well thought through practical solutions.
Be a self- starter in order to achieve tasks and overcome problems as well as provide direction for others.
Assert authority when necessary and always strive to achieve timescales and deadlines in order to overcome problems.
Be proactive and energetic in the work situation, seeking to get things done and at the same time deal with a variety of tasks.
