Operations Manager

Our client a global leader in design, manufacture and servicing of tooling and associated components to the pharmaceutical industry. The Operations Manager leads and manages a high performance Production function. Producing right first time precision tooling on time, accurate and complete to customer deadlines and in accordance with company values and objectives.The Operations Manager will report to the Managing Director for Operations, and will be an integral part of the leadership team responsible for delivering the financial, operational and strategic goals for company. The Production department consist of the CNC Programming Department, CNC Machining department with the latest modern technology , Wire Erosion,
Grinding, and other operations, working in a two shift pattern. It also consists of the Final Assembly
and Testing department.A key requirement is to manage, develop and direct the supervisory team, and lead departments consisting of 100 people ensuring motivation and engagement techniques are being used to drive operational excellence.


Owns the production schedule for Manufacturing, Assembly and Testing and undertakes robust
daily, weekly and monthly planning and coordination to ensure that all the necessary resources are
in place to achieve production KPI’s and ultimately deliver on time and in full to internal and external
customer deadlines
Lead and manage a team of Supervisors and Operators, ensuring they have the relevant skills,
capabilities, tools and support to perform in their roles though robust performance management,
training and development processes
Designs, develops and delivers an annual operating plan for the Production function that ensures
company will deliver on its production commitments within allocated budget, people resources,
targets and timeframes
Accountable for creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for people in their
area by ensuring full adherence to best practice systems and processes
Collaborates with Sales, Planning & Design to ensure the schedule is optimised and achieved to
deliver to customer deadlines
Engenders a positive employee relations climate with proactive management of communication,
participation and engagement activities
Leads a programme of continuous improvement for Production, using principals and methodologies
of Lean, OPEX, TQM and GMP appropriately, to ensure systems and processes are optimised, fit for
purpose and driving efficiency and effectiveness in terms of quality, waste elimination and cost
Optimises the performance of all plant and machinery, ensures that the operation has all the
necessary machinery, tools and resources available, with a proper PMP and new and improved
technology are adopted and promoted
Designs, develops and maintains a KPI dashboard that enables full visibility of performance of all
resources within Manufacturing, Assembly and Testing and shares information and insight on
performance to key stakeholders that enables better decision making by the Company
Liaises and negotiates with all third party suppliers and manages pricing and service levels to ensure
the best outcomes for the Company
Key Performance Indicators for the Manufacturing Manager
- Increase the throughput and OEE from the department
- Increase engagement and motivation through best practice techniques
- Reduce the number of non-conformities and/or customer complaints related to the
- On time delivery to internal schedule
- Employee engagement levels
- Budget delivery

 Educational/Professional qualification in Engineering
 Experience in Manufacturing, and/or Engineering related industry, with strong
knowledge of Manufacturing systems, operations and standards
 At least 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing /Operations management role
 Knowledge and experience in CNC machine technology and processes
 Knowledge in Lean; Six Sigma,TQM, GMP methodology and application of same
 Strong evidence of delivering results in a fast paced operational setting and continuous
improvement initiatives
 Laser focused on delivering quality to customer
 Proven ability to manage large volumes of highly complex machine operations to tight
 Proven ability to manage and develop high performance teams
 Communication and reporting skills (verbal and in writing)
 Confident at challenging the status quo, both influencing and challenging decisions at a
senior management level
 Levels of high energy and drive for results
