Our client a Cork based high performance start up focused on the development and commercialisation of new and novel orthopaedic trauma products, are growing thier team to include a Product Development Engineer who will be responsible for existing and pipeline product development along with supporting product regulatory submissions, clinical investigations and post market surveillance. Successful candidate should have a hands-on approach to projects, good attitude and work ethic along with the ability to work in a flexible and small entrepreneurial environment.

Role/Responsibilities

• Design and development of new products from concept generation, prototype development through to product launch.
• Liaising with clinicians and customers to understand their needs to optimize product functionality and performance.
• Application of both new and existing technologies, materials and processes to deliver the optimum product design ensuring the establishment of excellent standards of performance
• Manage all engineering activities in support of medical device product development, including specifications, test methods, technical protocols/reports, design reviews etc.
• Maintain current and accurate records of the iterative design process, trial and error and experimental steps to support the Design History File creation per ISO13485 system
• Plan, and execute design verification and validation testing in accordance with test protocols
• Support supplier selection, development and validation
• Communicate regular and accurate updates on project deliverables
• Support Quality and Regulatory affairs functions
• Ensure any Intellectual Property aspects of development are identified and protected

Skills/Experience

• Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Polymer/Design subject area
• 4+ years medical device product development or closely related experience
• Knowledge of medical device development & manufacturing particularly Orthopaedics
• Strong ability to manage critical projects as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Excellent problem solving, oral and written communication skills
• Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
• Must be self-motivated and detail oriented
• Ability to work as part of multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, engineers and senior management
• Proficient in 3D design software e.g. Solidworks
