Research & Development Engineer

Our client a high potential start-up company is currently seeking an R&D engineer to join their team. Reporting to the R&D Manager the R&D Engineer will be responsible for the co-ordination, development and design of new products and the co-ordination of resources as delegated by the R&D Manager and to complete assigned work in a manner which complies with the standards and procedures to which the company adheres.


To perform project tasks as delegated to him/her by the relevant manager, adhering to the company’s procedures which have been developed in compliance with ISO13485, the Medical Device Directives and FDA 21 CFR 820.
Work from basic clinical need to device concept to prototype
Interface with physicians and distil their needs into product requirements and concepts
Will apply knowledge of materials and processes to come up with working designs
May be required to progress a project from concept phase into commercialization phase and play a key role on the product / process / engineering / leadership fronts
To manage and co-ordinate procedures, protocols, reports and purchases relevant to the R&D tasks assigned to him/her, and to inform the R&D Manager of such details as appropriate.
Co-ordination of resources assigned by the relevant manager(s) to complete designated tasks.
To co-operate with the QA Department in developing test, verification and validation (including design review) procedures in relation to tasks designated by the R&D Manager.
To carry out other work as required by the business.


Minimum 5 years experience with relevant qualification
Qualified to degree level in engineering, science or related discipline
Medical device development experience, ideally in interventional vascular devices
Strong design skills
Proven track record in innovative product design, development and implementation
Experience interfacing with physicians and reducing feedback to device concepts
Project leadership skills and experience desirable
Ability to work across full spectrum of product development process
Experience of medical device design procedures
Broad biomedical materials and processing knowledge
Experience in the design and application of minimally invasive delivery systems
Good team skills with a high level of enthusiasm and motivation.
