Our client is a leading distributer of Medical, Surgical, Scientific & Clinical products across Ireland. They are looking to appoint a Head of Sales to manage their Healthcare Division across the Northern Ireland region. The successful person must be located close to Belfast where the HQ is as this is a strategic role requiring the person to be in the Head office a significant amount of the time. Reporting to the General Manager, the role is responsible for managing the healthcare sales function and processes to deliver against set targets and goals. The role has full P & L responsibility for the healthcare division and will be responsible for sales growth through identifying new products and suppliers. The role ensures divisional and individual targets are met, manages all sales leads/prospects & mentors and coaches the sales team. The role has a central part to play in building and developing strong business relationships between existing channel partners and also identifying new ones. The role has a strategic responsibility for identifying market opportunities and delivering innovative solutions to customers.


  • Full responsibility for the P & L of the division, increasing revenue and managing costs.
  • Working effectively as part of the senior management team to plan & execute companywide strategies.
  • Set high standards of achievement ensuring a profitable on target team.
  • Provide leadership in market analysis, communicating current market intelligence to the business regarding competitors’ activities, initiatives and customer trends & identifying market opportunities for new customers.
  • Monthly reporting on sales performance against budget and reporting on variances for inclusion in the board meeting agenda.
  • Create marketing strategies in consultation with channel partners, customers and the internal Marketing team.
  • Ensure the relationship with key channel partners is developed at all levels in the company including at front-line, Head of Sales, Service Manager and General Manager level.
  • Delivery on set target/goals and working with the General Manager to deliver strategic initiatives that will provide additional revenue.
  • Working closely with the Tenders and Contracts team to ensure appropriate responses to tenders.
  • Manage & maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Ensure direct reports operate in accordance with Company policies and procedures and best practices.
  • Setting and monitoring annual sales budgets & monitoring direct costs for the division.
  • Setting activity and revenue targets for all members of the sales team.
  • Appraise and monitor performance of the sales team to ensure they are fully motivated to achieve best performance to meet the company’s needs.
  • Chair sales meetings.
  • Develop and implement account management plans.
  • Identifying key areas for improvement in the sales process.
  • Attending monthly meetings with other senior members of the business.
  • Identifying recruitment needs and assisting with selection for the sales department.
  • Attending industry events and conferences to generate new business leads.
  • Acting as a spokesperson for the organisation at sales events and conferences.
  • Effective networking to generate new business for the company.
  • Lead and drive internal projects and teams.
  • Model the company’s values and behaviours.
  • Degree in Healthcare/Business
  • Solid experience of successful value based B2B solution/consultative selling, targeting senior executive level within customer organisations.
  • Previous experience successfully managing sales teams ideally from a similar industry.
  • Proven track record of achieving targets and driving sales growth in a business.
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to inspire and coach sales teams.
  • Ability to conduct market research, analyse this information and make long-term strategic decisions.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver high-level business plans. This to include annual sales plan’s and long term strategic planning documents.
  • A clear communicator able to make well-reasoned recommendations to all levels of the organisation, from peers to executive leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence in order to achieve results
  • Excellent command of verbal and written language and excellent presentation skills
  • Process oriented, yet flexible concerning calling/campaign response priorities
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) platform
  • Proven track record of quota achievement
  • Ability to travel as necessary to achieve results
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Full clean driving license and flexibility to travel
