The job function of this role is to support and contribute towards cross-functional teams throughout the global organisation for the execution of projects and product testing development efforts. Therefore, the candidate needs to collaborate and communicate well within the multi-disciplinary team and take a hands-on approach to utilise technical experience to aid product development and support production optimisation.
The candidate will work as part of the instrumentation team to advance equipment build, commissioning, installation, testing, analysis, and validation. Other responsibilities include helping maintain and improve optical bench test equipment, participating in and contributing to a safe work environment, supporting technical troubleshooting, machine optimisation, planned maintenance, and taking a disciplined approach to administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities of the Role |
- Performs routine analysis, engineering studies and experimental work with minimum guidance.
- Hands-on ability and willingness to participate in building optical measurement test benches. Have experience working in a fabrication workshop with hand and powered tools.
- Experience in reading mechanical installation drawings and electrical schematics. Proven ability to redline wiring diagrams. Perform cold and hot loop checks. Have experience with safety circuits adhering to machinery directives that support the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Have low voltage electrical calibration experience.
- Immerse in new and existing projects specialising in metrology and optics test instrumentation. Carry out experimentation for measurement of light embracing science and engineering principles.
- Performs and document proof of principle or feasibility studies. Assist in designing bespoke equipment from a concept. Apply innovation practices to ideation development through document design with supporting engineering schematics.
- Interact with a CAD package, ideally SolidWorks.
- Demonstrate a willingness to participate across all phases of machine design from concept to commissioning, focusing on mechanical, electrical, instrumentation (metrology) and controls.
- Reviews and updates project schedules and status reports to communicate effectively within the instrumentation and cross-functional teams. Liaises with facilities to acquire technical know-how. Develop and foster networking relationships with suppliers and other outside sources to acquire technological know-how to apply with new technology.
- Work within a regulated industry, under good automated manufacturing practices in line with the quality department, to support equipment validation protocols. Commission new equipment following machine safety policy/directives to safely perform tasks and comply with safety absolutes.
- Anticipate and solve problems for machine design. Be aware and prepared to document and file patent designs as part of a team effort for unique products and processes.
- Investigate new and existing technology in various manufacturing industries for potential technology adoption.
- Learns continuously - seeks opportunities to grow technical and product knowledge.
Essential Requirements (Education and Experience) |
- The candidate must have a minimum National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Level 7 (bachelor degree) qualification in engineering/physics/instrumentation or proven combinations of experience and track record in continuous professional development equal to or exceeding NFQ Level 7.
- Proven experience with team-based projects or in group participation in process engineering. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) is advantageous.
- Must have good communication skills and work with many people, eager to learn using a hands-on approach. Have a demonstrated ability and interest in troubleshooting, solving problems, and continuous improvement.
- The candidate must be well-versed in a spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software, demonstrating technical writing skills.
