Optical Scientist

Reporting into R&D Lab Manager


Location Galway

The R&D team are responsible for developing new photochromic ophthalmic lens product. The R&D analytical team is responsible for supporting all key process/product test requirements within R&D. The role of the Optical Scientist is to support the Optical Characterisation Scientist and optical testing team within R&D, Quality and Regulatory landscape.


Responsibilities

  • Technical support on electrochromic measurement systems
  • Support light management and optical properties in simulated environments
  • Input on measurement systems and understanding the photo-physical properties of photochromic systems.
  • Ability to critically evaluate data from photochromic measurement systems and input on supporting data management systems.
  • Technical support to optical instrumentation used to measure lens performance on calibration, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Perform testing support across a range of different optical instrumentation
  • Support good documentation practice through documented procedures (SOP’s) and training systems, Quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with management and makes timely decisions, factoring in available information and calculated risk, as appropriate.


Education


Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D in Physics and Instrumentation, Optics or Applied Physics



Experience
  • 1-3 years’ experience in Optical Industry
  • Exceptional trouble shooting/root cause analysis skills/attention to detail.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, team based structure
  • Keen interest in optical instrumentation and technical application
  • Knowledge on photometry, spectroscopy and interaction between light and materials.
  • Understanding of instrumental analysis in field of optical measurements
  • Advance computer skills (Excel, Outlook, JMP or Minitab expertise)
  • Ability to communicate and present technical data across multifunctional groups.
  • Partake in scientific exchange with technical associates both within and outside technical areas of responsibility.
  • Be adaptive and innovative
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • There may be some travel associated with this role
