R&D Extrusion Technician
Our client a leading Materials Technology company based in Galway is seeking a talented R&D Extrusion Technician for their technical centre. The R&D Extrusion Technician will be responsible for supporting the development and qualification of new and existing polymer materials. In this role you will work with Technical staff to develop and qualify materials used in Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industries. The R&D Extrusion Technician must have excellent technical and problem-solving skills, and ability to balance multiple priorities related to operations and achieving results from projects. Specifically, the R&D Extrusion Technician would support activities relating to the scale-up and start-up of polymer compounding and extrusion operations.
Role/Responsibilities
• Support installation, set up and qualification of key production and testing equipment for material development projects.
• Support qualification of new materials and develop test methods to support new manufacturing processes.
• Support the execution of manufacturing scale-up and start-up activities
• Conduct pilot scale process capability studies and optimise outputs for throughput and material property enhancement
• Set up, conduct and document process capability studies
• Support engineering staff on material capability, processing, and product performance.
• Independently execute continuous improvement projects.
• Deliver experimental samples and final products that satisfy cost, performance, and quality criteria.
• Work with production team to monitor performance, correct problems and assist in improvements
• Generate specifications, test methods and production scale-up of plastic materials; specifically polymer compounds and cast film extrusion products.
Skills/Experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the plastics/medical device industry.
• Polymer extrusion and processing experience across a wide range of materials
• Experience with polymer compounding, cast film extrusion and multilayer film would be advantageous, although not essential as full training will be provided.
• Manufacturing start-up and/or process improvement experience.
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to support multiple projects to achieve desired goals
