R&D Mechanical Technician

The R&D Mechanical technician has responsibility for performing mechanical performance of our product through the application of good science and measurement systems. The increase in test instruments supporting the materials and mechanical characterisation includes a range of instruments to enhance understanding in building a technical hub in this field.




Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Responsible for physical analytical equipment in terms of ensuring they are maintained and calibrated. The relevant analytical equipment is inclusive of microscopes, microhardness, nanoinductor, scratch tester, Filmetrics, contact angle and other test equipment.
  • Support on existing or new mechanical methods for durability and robustness.
  • Support R&D in carrying out mechanical performance testing as required.
  • Interpret, document and effectively communicate test results.
  • Support mechanical characterisation of coating stacks and support the development of methodologies to measure properties such as hardness, creep, layer thickness, scratch and memory indent.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of work completed.
Key Requirements:
  • Minimum Level 7 qualification in Material science, Physics, or Analytical Polymer Sciences
  • Good knowledge in Mechanical engineering with focus on material science.
  • Curious and rigorous person, and have problem solving
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Competent to convert technical data to presentation to wider audience
  • Knowledge of quality control systems
  • Strong team player
  • Good communication skills
Desirable:
  • Experience in a product development (R&D) environment
  • Knowledge of visual inspection techniques
  • Prolific on application of Excel beyond basic level
  • Competent in communications and presentation of technical data.
