R&D Principal Scientist

Photochromic and Liquid Crystal Technology

Location Galway, Ireland

You will be responsible for developing alternative technologies and manufacturing methods to combine photochromic and liquid crystal technology. Your work will be critical for the development of the next generation of the Xtractive Polarized products, which represents one of the most innovative family of products in the optical sector combining excellent photochromic performance and adaptive polarization.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new concepts using liquid crystal and photochromic technology.
  • Lead the research and development of the group around adaptive polarization.
  • Plan projects, report progress results, create and maintaining all necessary documentation.
  • Develop and document new knowledge on the photochromic and liquid crystal technology.
  • Contribute to the definition of new product requirements.
  • Contribute to the definition of product specifications to fulfil Critical to Quality Attributes.
  • Design and execute Design Verification testing to ensure compliance with the product specifications.
  • Ensure a success transfer of process and product knowledge from R&D to Industrialization.
  • Manage the network of collaborations with scientific institutions.
  • Collaborate efficiently cross-functionally.
  • Prepare and present results in international conferences and internal meetings.
Requirements
  • Master Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science with a minimum of 7 years industry experience.
  • Understanding of photochromic and liquid crystal technology.
  • Experience working in R&D environments and translating theoretical concepts into new products.
  • Self-initiative and have ability to learn both at experimental and theoretical levels.
  • Hands-on with laboratory work and process development.
  • Able to work as a part of the team with a strong work relationships.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Experience writing patent applications.
Desirable
  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science.
  • Experience in the optical sector.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of applied optics.
  • Computer programing (i.e. python).
  • Experience with Design Control for New Product Development.
