Our client is a leading supplier of Life Science & Chemicals to the Pharmaceutical, Biotech & Academic Industries across Ireland. They are seeking a Chemical Sales Specialist with a strong understanding of chemicals & chromatography. The purpose of the Sales Specialist is to sell and promote our clients range within the Chemicals workflow portfolio to customers within Industrial, Higher Education, Government, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Healthcare accounts.


  • Maintain and develop business relationships by interacting with customers, decision makers including technical end users, stores managers and procurement professionals.
  • To achieve and exceed all sales and margin related targets for the territory.
  • To contribute towards the achievement of the companies set profitability targets
  • To promote our clients product, service and solution portfolio across all market segments by adopting our clients Solution Selling strategy.
  • Provide technical support to Account Managers, Telebusiness Account Managers, regional distributors, segment leaders and sales leaders.
  • To gain and maintain a high level of technical product knowledge and to develop and enhance technical knowledge throughout tenure as Chemicals Specialist.
  • Learn to confidently perform product training, demonstrations and seminars to the customer base in addition to designing and delivering internal product training programs for Account Managers, which will enable them to sell and promote the basic Chemicals offerings within their territories.
  • Demonstrate effective planning and organisation for assigned KPIs, follow up quotations, agree the next steps and update CRM system.
  • Work with Management to develop a detailed territory plan to ensure all sales and margin targets are achieved and exceeded.
  • Effectively interrogate and interpret historical and current sales data to assess performance of the territory and use the data to effectively drive sales and margin growth.
  • Develop and maintain a rounded understanding of the sales positioning of our client and the products, services and solution offerings within the various market segment.
  • Demonstrate a team network with fellow sales team members (including but not limited) to the Account Management and Chemical and Chromatography specialist team who visit the same customers by maintaining regular weekly communication to ensure clarity for the customer and minimum duplication of activity.
  • Ensure regular training and mentoring of Account Managers takes place, either on collaborative field visits or by hosting product focused regional meetings.
  • To be able to demonstrate and action customer training and demonstration of a range of Chemicals related products to both the customer base and internally to other team members
  • Advise and support in the preparation of quotations and tenders for the Chemicals portfolio.
  • Work with preferred suppliers to gain product and service training, develop business for both our client and our supplier partners and the same time as forming and maintain relationship bonds with key supplier partners.
  • Provide feedback using verbal and written reporting tools to the business on customers, competitor activity, promotions etc, to agreed timescales and in agreed format as directed by your Sales Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • BSc in a Scientific (Chemistry) or Technical related area with 1+ years sales/business development experience
  • To have a strong/advanced knowledge base in Chemicals and providing complete solutions for the customers
  • Full, clean driving license is essential
  • Experience of working in a high paced and target driven environment
  • Experience of utilising and manipulating data in Excel, designing presentation slide decks within PowerPoint or equivalent
  • Experience of utilising and maintaining a CRM system
  • Proven track record of Sales within the scientific / technical industry or equivalent
  • Field sales experience with a history of high achievement and high-level negotiation with customers within the industry and a relevant understanding of the market dynamics and competitor threats
  • Proven track record in presenting technical seminars and solutions in the Chemicals area to a range of customer industries.
  • Can advise and support the preparation of quotations and tenders for the product range
Skills (full training shall be provided to a junior person):
  • To be able to understand the management of a short selling cycle and a longer term selling cycle
  • To be able to identify new business and manage existing business and relationships
  • To be able to build mutually beneficial relationships with customers, supplier partners and our clients associates
  • Has a proven track record of commercial awareness and understanding, both in theory and practice.
  • To have a solid understanding of variety of pricing models and disciplines that will lead to enhanced profit generation
  • To be a highly self-motivated individual with a high level of attention to detail, technical awareness and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • To have the ability to communicate at all levels in a scientific, technical and business environment
  • To participate in and attend both local and European sales training events, meetings and conferences as required.
