Senior Automation Engineer

The primary responsibility of this role will be to evaluate and develop the appropriate automation control systems for new equipment platforms.

This role includes, but is not limited to, the following functions:

  • Lead vision engineer for all vision related projects on new and existing equipment.
  • Work with members of company to assess the vision systems needs for new and existing equipment, identifying obsolescence risks and delivering upgrade package options.
  • Specify appropriate vision & automation controls hardware to meet the given process requirements.
  • Serving as a technical point of contact for machine vendors in regards to vision systems design.
  • Design of vision software systems for new and existing equipment. Lead the development of vision programming standards.
  • Support concept testing, characterization, optimization, and validation efforts.
  • Ensure equipment documentation is developed and maintained appropriately.
  • Seek ways to improve process equipment in terms of reliability, throughput, process robustness, flexibility, and cost.
  • Provide technical training to others especially in the vision system area.

Requirements:
  • Qualification to Level 8 (Honours Degree) in Engineering, IT, or Technology discipline.
  • 5+ years Software Development of Vision Systems applied to manufacturing. Cognex experience required with a strong emphasis on vision pro integration and insight systems.
  • Knowledge of the PLC programming particularly Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 V30+.
  • A good understanding of robot systems and ideally experience in Epson Robot programming and Integration to PLC and vision systems.
  • Working knowledge of RFID and servo motion control.
  • In Depth knowledge of Database design and SQL programming.
  • Core and/or Gold Certified Ignition certification advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Overall mechanical aptitude and familiarity with electro-pneumatic equipment, functional design specifications, risk assessment, design reviews, Java, Python, C++, VB.Net and SQL are advantageous.
