Our client a global healthcare company who have Global R&D based in Ireland currently seeks a Senior Packaging Development Engineer to join their team. The Senior Packaging Development Engineer will play a key role in streamlining the packaging and labelling development process whilst integrating input from multiple stakeholders (Manufacturing sites and external vendors)The Packaging Development Engineer will work across multiple product portfolios as packaging and labelling subject matter expert



Role/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of packaging and labelling solutions for Drug Delivery Devices from ideation through verification and validation to industrialization.
  • Development of packaging and labeling (including IFU) design requirements and specifications with consideration for compatibility with high volume manufacturing.
  • Provide SME input into requirements for the development automated packaging lines.
  • Creation and maintenance of Design Control procedures for the development of Drug Delivery Device packaging and labeling to meet the needs of an extensive combination product portfolio and pipeline.
  • Develop the material strategy for Drug Delivery Device packaging/labelling.
  • Author purchase specifications for packaging and device label components.
  • Manage purchase orders with suppliers; procurement of samples to enable design and development, performance testing, acceptance testing, stability batches, Human Factors evaluations and transfer to manufacturing facilities.
  • Coordination with cross functional teams including integration with development partners and the management of CMOs and suppliers.
  • Work closely with all device development functions to manage translation of Industrial Design concepts into the packaging design and ensure that appropriate performance testing is completed to demonstrate robustness of the proposed packaging solution reflective of its intended use.
  • Work with Global and regional technical regulatory functions to define label printing and unique device identification requirements for device programs.



Skills/Experience:

  • Scientist or Engineer with considerable experience of Pharmaceutical Packaging development and industrialization.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage responsibilities and deliverables across multiple programs in parallel.
  • Detailed understanding of pharmaceutical packaging materials, print specifications and processes.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience in drafting General Assembly/Part drawings, use of Solidworks or equivalent 2D/3D modelling program.
  • Thorough understanding of the constraints of pack and label design and development within the requirements of 21 CFR 820.30 Design Control and the European regulatory framework.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with development of automated packaging assembly lines an advantage.
  • Understanding of Human Factors and Usability Engineering.
