An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an innovative early-stage medical device start-up as its first technical hire outside of the founding team.

The Opportunity As Senior R&D Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving the development of innovative medical technologies from concept through to product development, verification and commercialisation.
Working closely with the founders, you will have broad exposure across all aspects of product development and will help establish the engineering foundations of the business as it scales.
This position offers significant visibility, influence and future leadership potential as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design and development of innovative medical device products.
  • Contribute to product architecture, design specifications and technical documentation.
  • Develop prototypes and evaluate product concepts through testing and analysis.
  • Plan and execute verification and validation activities.
  • Collaborate with external development partners, manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Support design control activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in risk management, usability engineering and product testing activities.
  • Contribute to intellectual property generation and technical innovation.
  • Assist in establishing engineering processes, systems and best practices.
  • Work cross-functionally to support future regulatory, clinical and manufacturing activities.
  • Play a key role in shaping the technical direction of the company.
Candidate Profile
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Product Design Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience within the medical device industry.
  • Proven experience in product development within a regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of design controls and medical device development processes.
  • Experience with prototype development, testing and design verification.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working within a start-up or early-stage company environment.
  • Exposure to catheter-based, implantable or minimally invasive medical devices.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485, risk management and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing external development partners and suppliers.
